The Roottrees Are Dead Complete Family Tree

Find a relative, check an entry, or reveal the complete tree at your own spoiler level.

I'm missing someone →

The complete tree contains 49 main relatives used by the game's story-progress counter, plus separate partner and non-blood slots needed for the fully completed family chart. Use Progress Tree when you're trying to reach the 9, 18, 33 or 49 story milestones, or switch to Complete Tree when you want every answer. Partner slots sit beside a main relative and do not raise the story meter. Search a name when you only need one person, use Check My Entry when the game will not accept a card you already filled, or use Who am I missing? when the last few portraits will not click.

How Much Help Do You Want?

Nothing is spoiled until you ask for it. Hint only keeps every name hidden, Guided shows names and places, and Full answers adds jobs, portraits and searches.

Which Tree Do You Need?

Find a Roottree

Type any part of a name, or an occupation such as Mechanic, to jump straight to the card.

Check My Entry

Already filled a card and the game will not accept it? Say what you entered and this tells you which single field is wrong.

What are you filling?

Not sure which photo the chart wants? Open the Portrait Finder.

Why Won't My Tree Lock?

Filled cards that will not move the counter are almost always a batch that is not finished yet.

How many new correct blood relatives have you filled since the last lock?

And how many partners did you fill correctly in the same batch?

Only blood relatives count toward a progress batch.

Commonly Confused Names

Same first name, same last name, or the same two names in a different order. These are the pairs players mix up most.

≠

Edward Clancy Roottree

There is another similarly named person involved much later.

≠

Gwyneth Madsen

She is the one married into the Morden line, not the founder.

≠

Gwyndoline Morden

One is Elias and Gwyneth's child; the other married a Morden.

Which Elias do you mean?

How Family Tree Progress Works

Story progress works in batches, not one card at a time.

  1. 3
  2. 9
  3. 18
  4. 33
  5. 49

Before 33

Three correct new blood relatives per lock batch. Fill three, lock, and the counter jumps to the next milestone it reaches.

From 33 onward

Four correct new blood relatives per lock batch. This is why three correct cards can stop moving the counter at the end of the game.

Partners and extra portraits lock together with a finished batch when they are right, but they never change how many blood relatives a batch still needs. Only a blood slot counts.
