São Bernardo do Campo is a real place in Brazil. A game designer by the name of Jeremy Johnston looked up cities in Brazil that had a lot of manufacturing, so that he could place a fictional factory there. He did not want to offend any Brazilians with the tale he was writing (that involved corruption and politics), so the small town name he made up (Alvalagos) where the factory was located was invented by mixing two other regions, Interlagos and Alvarenga.
