Choose a FamilyDOKU Puzzle

Every puzzle is a logic grid built from the same family rules, so the wording carries over between them.

Grids 1 to 5 are the ones the base game exposes. Grids 6 to 10 arrive with the second campaign.

FamilyDOKU Puzzle Solutions

Every grid is laid out here row by row. Read the names left to right, and the one after the + is the partner who married into the family rather than a blood relative.

What Do You Need?

  • I don't understand the rules

Every grid checks the same handful of family rules, and the rules section walks through them.

    Open that section
  • One person won't fit

Place the people you are sure of first, then check whether the grid still expects a suffix or a married name.

    Open that section
  • A surname looks wrong

Children usually take the surname the grid's own rule expects, and a married or hyphenated name is not simplified away.

    Open that section
  • The generation looks wrong

Rows are generations, so a person in the wrong row breaks the relationships above and below them.

    Open that section
  • I only want one row

Every grid breaks into its rows, so you can open the one you are stuck on.

  • I want the solved count

The achievement tracker keeps the running total.

  • I can't find the app

FamilyDOKU Rules

These are the checks the grids lean on. When a layout is refused, it is almost always one of them.

Surname inheritance
A child takes the surname the grid expects from the parents already placed, so fix the older rows before the newer ones.
Hyphenated and adopted names
A hyphenated family name and an adopted name are both deliberate. Do not shorten either one to make a row fit.
Sibling name order
Brothers and sisters are listed in a fixed order within their row, so swapping two siblings is still wrong.
Repeated first names
A first name can appear twice in one family. The repeat is placed by the relationship, not by avoiding the duplicate.
Jr and III
Suffixes run in sequence down a family line. A missing or out-of-order suffix is a rejected row.
Patriarch and matriarch
The top row is set by gender, and the grid will not accept the two founders the other way round.
Spouse placement
A spouse sits with the partner they married into, which decides the row their children belong to.

FamilyDOKU Achievement

Solving all 10 puzzles is what the FamilyDOKU achievement asks for, and nothing else in the game counts toward it.
